School Attendance
At Ridgeway, we want the best for every child and we believe this starts with good attendance. The higher a child’s attendance the more opportunities they have to achieve the very best from their education.
Ridgeway Infant School supports the Government's recommendation that all children achieve at least 95% attendance by setting our yearly target at over 95% for the school as a whole. This was recognised by OFSTED at our last inspection who acknowledged our hard work to promote good attendance.
Therefore we celebrate good attendance in several ways:
- Every week we present the attendance trophy to the class with the highest attendance and this includes a special treat for the class if they have achieved 100%
- Certificates are presented to children who achieve attendance of 95% or higher at the end of each term
- Special awards given to children who have had 100% attendance for the whole school year
We want to help all our children to achieve good attendance and so we provide help for families who are struggling with this. We work closely with the Education Welfare Service who can provide help and support in this area (Link to DCC Educational Welfare Service). Mr R Simpson, our Learning Mentor, works with children and families to help them to achieve good attendance and to help them to get to school on time. You can contact Mr R Simpson at rsimpson@ridgeway.derby.sch.uk if you have any questions or would like more information on anything related to attendance and punctuality.
